We had the chance to conduct an indirect interview with Ms. Ioana Anghel, the current Assistant Director of Group Sales for JW Marriott Marquis Dubai Hotel. We provided few questions that will convey on how they reach this success together with handling of different types of MICE Client.

 

  1. Majority from what type of industries have you finalized most of your events with?

JW Marriott Marquis, Dubai is a versatile property in the way that it works with different industries due to its capacity, size, options, iconic status and partnerships in the region. If I had to choose one in particular, I would say that Medical Events are amongst the top due to their high number of events scheduled per year.

  1. What is the biggest number of attendees in a group you handled?

In the past, we have organized programs for up to 1,500 people and they are definitely very interesting to handle. Joining from smaller properties was a very exciting time for me, whilst also put into perspective that sometimes the same amount of time used in the planning process goes for a large or small scale event – all depending on the complexity and event expectations. Knowing and understanding your client is key and can be a make or break no matter the size of the program.

  1. How do you work to meet the needs of MICE clients and make your clients come back for another event at your hotel?

It is all about relationships. Be it from you and your client or you and your colleagues, without the support of the entire hotel team, a program would not be possible. A MICE event connects all departments altogether and there are so many direct touch points with guests – from the booking process up until the stay and post event follow up – it all needs to be flawless for your experience to be a memorable one that you would like to repeat. It is also important that people can trust and can count on each other, while also having a fun, creative and pro-active team that is empowered to make decisions, which is exactly what we have at JW Marriott Marquis.

  1. What do you think makes the JW Marriott Marquis leads as one of the best MICE hotel in Middle East?

It is all attributed to a great team and great leadership.

  1. In this unprecedented time COVID crisis, how’s the property coping up with situation? How can you bring back the confidence of the MICE client to book in the property?

From our collected feedback, we noticed that all our clients are eager to travel or bring back live events and during the past few months we ensured that we will be ready for when it happens. For more than 90 years, Marriott has lived by a core value, “take care of our guests and associates”. This enduring value guides us as we face the difficult challenge of responding to the COVID-19. This pandemic has required us to raise our existing standards to an ever higher level with the new protocols for the current circumstances. We want our guests to know that we are doing everything we can to welcome them to a hygienic environment once they reach JW Marriott Marquis, Dubai. We are closely monitoring the CDC and WHO statements regarding COVID-19 and continue to follow the guidelines from these agencies and the local health departments on appropriate hygiene.
